The association, founded in May 1968, acts as an umbrella organization for the interests of Swiss civil aviation and space travel. It represents all parties interested in the promotion and maintenance of these areas and coordinates their efforts.

The association is involved in shaping the legal basis in the field of Swiss aerospace and maintains contact with the government, parliamentarians and authorities involved, as well as the media. The chairman is the flight captain and national councilor Thomas Hurter.
