Werner Mattle (born November 6, 1949 in Oberriet ) is a former Swiss ski racer . His greatest successes are in the giant slalom .

Mattle, who grew up in Arosa and competes for the Arosa ski club, celebrated his first and greatest success in the World Cup when he won the giant slalom in Adelboden on January 24, 1972 with start number 39. Shortly afterwards, the then very successful Swiss federation nominated him for the 1972 Winter Olympics in Sapporo . There he won the bronze medal in the giant slalom , in which the victory went to the Italian Gustav Thöni . Since this competition was synonymous with the World Championship that year, Mattle also won the World Championship bronze medal. In 1972 he was also the Swiss champion in giant slalom. Mattle was never able to repeat his surprising World Cup victory, even making it into the top ten only twice later, as tenth in the giant slalom in Pra-Loup in March 1972 and only three years later as third in the giant slalom in Adelboden on January 13, 1975 .

In December 2005 Mattle left his footprint at the Place of Fame in Adelboden, where all the winners of the giant slalom there were immortalized.
