history

According to the award document from Heinrich the Pious , the city of Marienberg was awarded the coat of arms that is still valid today.

The Virgin Mary stands as a speaking symbol for the place name Marienberg, which was named after the patron saint. The silver crescent moon with mallet and recovery iron symbolizes the silver mining around Marienberg. The three mountains represent the city, Mühl and Schlettenberg.

The city colors were derived from the blue shield with a golden lily scepter, gold above, blue below.

In GDR times, instead of the Saxon coat of arms , mallets and iron were shown on a yellow background. After the reunification, the coat of arms was used again in its original design.

Marienberg has not officially anchored the coat of arms as a national emblem in its main statute . It is conducted exclusively according to customary law.
