(María) Saleta Castro Nogueira (born November 3, 1987 in Cuntis , Pontevedra , Spain) is a Spanish (Galician) triathlete , Ironman winner (2017) and both U23 triathlon champion (Olympic distance) and long-distance elite Champion of the year 2010. Castro is included in the best list of Spanish triathletes on the Ironman distance .

Career

Saleta Castro graduated from a sports school in Vilagarcía de Arousa , the Liceo Casino, and is studying at the Universidade de Vigo. She competed in her very first ETU competition on July 20, 2003 in Győr, Hungary, where she took fifth place for Spain in the youth team competition.

Although Saleta Castro only took part in three of the ten Spanish Cup competitions in 2009, she was able to secure 16th place in the Spanish elite ranking. At the Galician championship in 2009 she won the silver medal in the U23 and bronze medal in the elite category.

National Champion Triathlon Long Distance 2010

In 2010 Saleta Castro rose to third place in the Spanish elite ranking and became Galician elite triathlon champion.

Since 2011, Saleta Castro has mainly competed in long distance competitions. Saleta Castro represents the Galician club Cidade de Lugo Fluvial in Spain and is a member of the Spanish duathlon and triathlon team.

Ironman winner 2017

In August 2017, the 29-year-old won the Ironman Maastricht-Limburg with a new course record .

In Lanzarote at the Ironman Lanzarote in May 2018 she finished fifth.
