Tinajo is one of the seven communities on the Canary Island of Lanzarote .
Tinajo belonged to the lands of Inaguaden for a long time , and gained its independence as a municipality in 1802. In addition to the main town of Tinajo, the towns of Casas del Islote, El Cuchillo, Casas de Guiguan, Mancha Blanca , La Santa, La Vegueta, Tinguaton and Tajaste belong to the Local community.
The lively, elongated capital Tinajo is the center of an extensive vegetable growing region. The famous Terrero wrestling arena is also located here . The parish church of San Roque from the end of the 18th century is interesting . The fact that it has three aisles from the front is due to the baptistery with the stone baptismal font attached to the left. Processional figures, such as Santiago riding a donkey, are kept in the adjoining rooms . In the main nave is the finely carved Mudejar ceiling, the fields of which are painted in blue and red. The crucifix by the famous Canarian sculptor Luján Pérez is striking on the partly gilded, white-framed main altar wall . Also worth mentioning is a portrait of Mary by his pupil Fernando Estévez .
