history
The main town of Yaiza, like its neighboring town of Uga , was affected by the massive volcanic eruptions on Lanzarote in the 1830s.
The village practically no longer existed after the eruptions and was rebuilt. Agriculture, the main source of income for the population of Yaiza, was no longer possible on the lava- covered areas in northern Yaiza. The residents did everything to restore the small town to its former beauty. Today tourism and viticulture are the main source of income for the municipality.
