Erdinger Weißbräu started in 1886, when the construction of a wheat beer brewery in Erding was first mentioned in a document. After several changes of ownership (until 1890 the Erdinger Johann Kienle was the owner, then the Munich Stadlmaier family, from 1930 it belonged to the Malzfabrik FW Otto from Hildesheim ) the then managing director Franz Brombach bought the brewery in 1935 and named it Erdinger on December 27, 1949 Weißbräu. In 1965 the brewery was able to achieve an annual output of around 40,000 hl for the first time.

In 1965 Franz Brombach's son, Werner Brombach , joined the company. After the death of his father in 1975, the business graduate and master brewer took over the private brewery and continues his father's work to this day. In 1978 the brewery achieved an output of around 225,000 hl, making it the market leader.

After the company headquarters in the old town no longer offered enough space, new brewery facilities were built in 1983 on an area on the outskirts of Erding. In 1990 Erdinger was the first wheat beer brewery to break through the 1 million hl mark.

In 1991 the other still existing Erdinger brewery, Fischer's Stiftungsbräu, became part of the Weißbräu, which expanded the range to include light beer . It is offered as the Hell Foundation . The production of Fischer's Hell was transferred to the Irlbacher Brewery in 2011.

advertising

The Erdinger Weißbier advertising slogan is "Erdinger Weißbier - brewed with body and soul".
The Erdinger jingle "Des Erdinger Weissbier, des is hoid a splendor hollara-di-riad-dei, we like it day and night." Has been in use unchanged since the early 1970s. The melody comes from the folk tune "My father is Häusl".

Well-known Erdinger Weißbräu advertising media are Franz Beckenbauer (since 2003) and Magdalena Neuner .

Controversy

When trying to be able to use the geographical part of the name alone, the brewery was defeated by the Süddeutsche Zeitung . The local part can continue to be called Erdinger SZ , but Erdinger Weißbräu had already managed to rename the Erdinger Therme to Therme Erding and the Erdinger Jazz Days to Jazz Days Erding .

The Erdinger Herbstfest , the Erdinger Organ Week and other companies and events refused to change their names, some of which had existed for decades.

At the end of March 2013, Warsteiner confirmed investigations by the Cartel Office against German breweries for possible illegal price fixing, including Erdinger. After it became apparent that Erdinger Weißbräu was not involved in price fixing, the investigation was discontinued.
