Friedrich Fischer (brewer)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Friedrich Fischer (* 1827 in Erding ; † 1890 there ) was a German brewer and postman .

Life

Friedrich's father Joseph Fischer was a beer brewer, restaurant owner and postman. In 1838 he bought the brewery in Erding along with the associated pub; the “Resch-” became the “Postbräu”.

Friedrich Fischer also trained as a master brewer and ran the company from 1856. He had three children with his wife Katharina (1831–1894), all of whom died before him. Because there was no successor, the couple decided to set up a foundation.

In 1891, one year after Friedrich Fischer's death, the Fischer's Charity Foundation began its work. Land and the brewery of the Fischer family formed the basis for social works. Under the name of Fischer's Stiftungsbräu , the annual output was initially 10,000 hectoliters. Modernizations such as the electrification of the company in 1892, a new brewhouse in 1930 or the expansion of the fermentation cellar in 1963 ensured the profit up to the 1980s. Then operations could no longer be maintained.

In 1991 the private brewery Erdinger Weißbräu took over the company.

Honors

  • In the Erdinger center, Friedrich-Fischer-Strasse was named after Fischer
  • Since 2000 two bronze statues commemorate Katharina and Friedrich Fischer on Katharina-Fischer-Platz
