Ariane Gomes Monticeli Da Silveira (born August 6, 1982 in Porto Alegre ) is a Brazilian triathlete , Ironman winner (2015) and two-time Brazilian duathlon champion (2015, 2016).

Career

Ariane Monticeli started her first triathlon in 2005. In 2006 she finished at the World Championships on the Olympic distance (1.5 km swimming, 40 km cycling and 10 km running) in 56th place in the age group 20-24.
She has been a professional athlete since 2008.

Long distance triathlon since 2011

In May 2011, she started the long distance at the Ironman Brasil for the first time (3.86 km swimming, 180.2 km cycling and 42.195 km running) and took third place.

In April 2015 she became the Brazilian duathlon champion and in May she won the Ironman Brasil .

In 2016 she was able to repeat the success of the previous year and again became national duathlon champion.

Doping ban 2017

In March 2017, in a doping test as part of Ironman 70.3 Buenos Aires, the prohibited use of EPO ( erythropoietin ) was proven and she was temporarily banned from all further starts on May 27th. In an open letter, she explained this as a one-time attempt ("one-time affair") after a disappointing 2016 season.

In May 2019, she who lives in Sydney , Australia, was hit by a truck while on the way to the cafe where she worked. She sustained severe injuries and fractures, especially her head. The driver of the vehicle fled from the scene of the accident and did not help the victim.
