The Boao Forum (English: Boao Forum for Asia, Chinese: 博鳌 亚洲 论坛; Pinyin : Bó'áo Yàzhōu Lùntán) is a high-level meeting of political, economic and academic leaders, which was formed on the model of the World Economic Forum in Davos .

history

The meeting was initiated in 1998 by the then Filipino President Fidel Ramos , the then Australian Prime Minister Bob Hawke and the then Japanese Prime Minister Morihiro Hosokawa . It was founded on February 27, 2001 by 26 Asian and Pacific countries and took place for the first time in April 2002.

The venue is the small town of Bo'ao (Chinese: 博鰲, Pinyin: Bó'áo) on the southern Chinese island of Hainan . However, the secretariat is in Beijing .
