Monique Vézina

Monique Vézina , PC (born July 13, 1935 in Rimouski , Québec ) is a former Canadian politician of the Progressive Conservative Party of Canada (PC).

Life

Monique Vézina, who was an administrative assistant by profession, became a manager at the Desjardins Group cooperative bank in 1976 . Then she was in Québec only from 1978 to 1982 member of the Supreme Education Council ( Conseil supérieur de l'éducation ) and then Vice-President of the Administration of Motor Insurance ( Régie de l'assurance automobile du Québec ).

She was elected as a candidate for the progressive-conservative party in the general election on September 4, 1984 for the first time as a member of the lower house and represented the constituency of Rimouski-Témiscouata until the general election on October 25, 1993 .

After the PC's election victory, she was appointed by Prime Minister Brian Mulroney in his cabinet as Minister for Francophonie and Minister for External Relations at the Foreign Minister on September 17, 1984 and held these offices until June 29, 1986. She then became Minister for Utilities and Services as well on August 27, 1987 Minister of State for Transport, before being Minister of State for Employment and Immigration from March 31, 1988 to January 3, 1993. At the same time she was Minister of State for Seniors between September 15, 1988 and June 24, 1993.

Most recently, Monique Vézina was again Minister for Francophonie and Minister for External Relations in the Mulroney cabinet from January 4 to June 24, 1993.

After leaving the House of Commons and the government, she was a board member of the Center for Education and International Cooperation ( Center d'éducation et de coopération internationale ) in Montreal between 1994 and 1997 .
