Christian Fitzek (born February 8, 1961 in Wipperfürth ) is a former German handball player and coach and today's sports functionary .

Career

Christian Fitzek started as a player at Bayer Leverkusen and came to TSV Bayer Dormagen via VfL Gummersbach , SG Wallau / Massenheim , where the cyclist ended his active career. For the national team , he played 109 international games, in which he scored 233 goals (three of them by seven meters ). He made his international debut on January 20, 1981 in Hamburg against Iceland .

From 2000 to December 2003 Fitzek was the trainer of Frisch Auf Göppingen . Before that, he coached TSV Bayer Dormagen from May 1996 to January 1997.

From October 24, 2005, Fitzek was sporting director at HSV Hamburg in the handball Bundesliga . In July 2004 he became assistant coach at HSV Hamburg under Bob Hanning and took over his position as head coach after Hanning's departure in May 2005. A short time later, on October 17, 2005, he was given leave of absence as a coach. Martin Schwalb was hired as the new coach , while Fitzek switched to the post of sporting director. On December 25, 2010, Fitzek's contract was terminated by HSV Hamburg with effect from June 30, 2011. From August 2012 he was managing director at VfL Bad Schwartau . After he had his contract with VfL Bad Schwartau terminated at his own request in August 2014, he became managing director of HSV Hamburg. After the bankruptcy and withdrawal from gaming, Fitzek was released from HSV Hamburg in January 2016.

From July 2013 he was also Vice President of the 2nd handball Bundesliga . Fitzek resigned from this position in January 2016.

On October 1, 2016, he will be the national coach of the handball association in Berlin .
