Antonio Carlos Ortega (born July 14, 1971 in Málaga ) is a Spanish handball coach and former handball player , who was mostly used on the right and right winger backcourt .
Career
As a player
The 1.84 m tall and 86 kg heavy left-hander began his professional career in his hometown of Málaga . From 1994 to the end of his career in 2005 he played in the ASOBAL league for the Spanish top club FC Barcelona . With six EHF Champions League victories, he is one of the most successful players in the competition.
With the Spanish national team , he won at the 2000 Olympics the bronze medal at the 2004 Olympics , he finished seventh. At the 1998 European Championships he was runner-up, and two years later he won bronze again at the 2000 European Championships . In total, he played 144 international matches , in which he scored 507 goals.
As a trainer
After his career ended, Antonio Carlos Ortega took over the coaching position of BM Antequera , with whom he made promotion to the ASOBAL league in his first season, and remained with the club until 2011. From 2012 he coached the top Hungarian club MKB-MVM Veszprém . In the 2012/13 season he was Hungarian champion and cup winner and reached the quarter-finals of the EHF Champions League 2012/13 . Veszprém separated from him in September 2015. After the winter break of the 2015/16 season, Ortega took over the coaching position of the Danish club KIF Kolding København , which he coached until the end of the 2016/17 season. He then took over the German Bundesliga club TSV Hannover-Burgdorf .
