Timo Kastening (born June 25, 1995 in Stadthagen ) is a German handball player . The left-hander plays in the right outer position . He is 1.80 m tall and weighs 75 kg. His current club is MT Melsungen .
Career
society
Timo Kastening started playing handball at VfL Bad Nenndorf at the age of five . The division of this association has belonged to the HSG Schaumburg Nord since 2008. After a guest appearance at TSV Barsinghausen, Kastening went through all youth teams of TSV Hannover-Burgdorf from the C-youth.
In the 2013/14 season he made his debut in the handball Bundesliga under coach Christopher Nordmeyer at the age of 18 . He threw 16 goals in 17 games. He was also used in the EHF Cup this season. Here he scored a total of 7 hits.
In the last five seasons, Kastening has played in all Bundesliga games and in the 2016/17 seasons with 86 hits (throwing rate: 78.9%) and 2017/18 with 75 hits (throwing rate: 64.66%) became the most dangerous right winger under 26 or 27 years.
In the 2017/18 season he and his team under coach Antonio Carlos Ortega also reached the final of the Final Four in the DHB Cup , in which he scored six hits at 26:30 against the Rhein-Neckar Löwen (throwing rate: 100%).
In the 2018/19 season, Timo Kastening finally made the breakthrough and became the fourth best shooter in the league with 190 goals.
Kastening scored his most goals in a Bundesliga game on February 6, 2020 against SC Magdeburg with 13 goals (throwing rate: 81.25%).
Kastening will run for MT Melsungen from the 2020/21 season .
National team
Timo Kastening became European champion for the first time in 2012 with the U18 national team. He won this title in 2014 with the U20 national team - u. a. together with Fabian Wiede , Paul Drux , Jannik Kohlbacher and Tim Suton . In this tournament, Kastening scored a total of 23 goals in seven games.
With the U21 national team, Kastening reached 3rd place at the 2015 World Cup and thus secured himself. a. together with Franz Semper the bronze medal. In this tournament he came in a total of nine games on 28 goals.
In September 2018, Timo Kastening received an invitation from national coach Christian Prokop for the first time to a DHB regional course for the German men's national handball team . For the two qualifying games for the European Handball Championship 2020 against Israel and Kosovo that followed at the end of October, he moved up to the reserve squad.
Kastening made his international debut for the German national team on March 9, 2019 . At the European Championship 2020 he was one of the top performers in the German team. Then Kastening was voted Germany's handball player of the year .

Timo Kastening grew up in Riepen (district of Bad Nenndorf) and successfully completed his apprenticeship as a banker at Sparkasse Hannover in 2015. His brother Marius plays in the 3rd league for handball Hannover-Burgwedel . His father Friedrich was the sporting director at HF Springe from January to October 2015 and is currently the team manager at Handball Hannover-Burgwedel .
