Michael Levring Vestergaard Knudsen (born September 4, 1978 in Hobro , Denmark ) is a former Danish handball player . Knudsen, who last appeared for Bjerringbro-Silkeborg , was used as a cyclist .
Career
Michael Knudsen started playing handball in Hvornum at the age of six. The club located there has formed the HOH 85 syndicate with two other clubs since 1985, for which Knudsen played. In 1997 he was hired by Viborg HK , with whom he won the Danish Cup in 2000 . From 2002 to 2004 he played for Skjern Håndbold . Here he won the EHF Challenge Cup in 2003 . In the 2004/05 season he played again for Viborg HK before moving on to SG Flensburg-Handewitt. With the SG he was in the Champions League final in 2007 and was defeated by the THW Kiel . In May 2008, he extended his contract with SG Flensburg-Handewitt by two years until 2010. In spring 2010, Knudsen had to undergo an operation on his knee joint and was then unable to work for a long time. With Flensburg he won the European Cup Winners' Cup in 2012 and the EHF Champions League in 2014 . For the 2014/15 season he moved to the Danish first division club Bjerringbro-Silkeborg. With Bjerringbro-Silkeborg he won the championship in 2016. After the 2019/20 season he ended his career and took over the post of sporting director at Bjerringbro-Silkeborg.
Michael V. Knudsen ran for the Danish junior national team, with which he won the 1998 European Championship and the 1999 World Championship. At the European Championships in Norway in 2008 he was European Champion ; He won bronze at the European Championships in 2002 , 2004 and 2006 as well as at the 2007 World Championships . He was also elected to the All-Star Team at the 2007 World Cup . In summer 2012 he took part in the Olympic Games in London and finished sixth. Knudsen scored a total of 21 goals in six games. At the 2014 European Championships in his own country, he was runner-up in Europe. In April 2014, Knudsen ended his international career after 244 internationals.
