Marcin Lijewski (born September 21, 1977 in Krotoszyn , Poland ) is a former Polish handball player who played for the Polish national team. He is now working as a handball trainer.

Career

His career began in 1991 at Ostrovia Ostrów Wlkp. (1991–1996) in his home country. He then moved to Wybrzeże Gdańsk (1996-2001). This was followed by a season with Orlen Plock .

On July 1, 2002 Lijewski moved to SG Flensburg-Handewitt , where he played as a left-hander in the half-right position. For the 2008/09 season he switched to HSV Hamburg , for which his brother Krzysztof also played.

On May 16, 2012 Lijewski was officially bid farewell to the club at O2 World Hamburg , as the club no longer planned with him at that time. On May 29, 2012, however, it became public that Lijewski had extended it for another year in Hamburg. In July 2013 he signed a contract with Wisła Płock . At the end of the 2013/14 season, he left Wisła Płock. Then he returned to Wybrzeże Gdańsk. After Lijewski played for Wybrzeże Gdańsk in the 2014/15 season, he took over as assistant coach there in October 2015. For the 2017/18 season he took over as coach from Wybrzeże Gdańsk. From summer 2019 he will train Górnik Zabrze.

For Poland he completed 251 international matches. At the 2007 World Cup in Germany, he lost to Poland in the final against Germany. Because of his achievements, he was elected to the all-star team at the 2007 World Cup to the position of the right back space . His defensive behavior, which makes him one of the most complete players in the Polish national team, was particularly decisive.

At the 2009 World Cup , Marcin Lijewski was again elected to the All-Star Team.

On February 5, 2007, the Polish President Lech Kaczyński presented him with the Golden Cross of Merit of the Republic of Poland .
