EHF Champions League 2018/19

In the 2018/19 EHF Champions League , 28 handball club teams (34 with qualifications) took part, which had qualified for the competition in their home leagues in the previous season. The defending champion was Montpellier Handball .

mode

Group stage: There were four groups that were divided into two performance groups. In each group, everyone played a game against each other. In group A & B, the 16 teams classified as particularly powerful played, of which 5 teams per group reached the round of 16; the respective group winners went straight to the quarter-finals.

In Group C & D were the remaining twelve teams and the two winners of the qualification. The two first and second placed players played the places for the round of 16 in a knockout round.

Round of 16: The round of 16 consisted of six pairings, as the group winners of groups A and B reached the quarter-finals directly. It was played in the knockout system with a return leg. The second from groups A and B played against the qualified from groups C and D, the third against the sixth and the fourth against the fifth of the other group. The winner of each game went to the quarter-finals.

Quarter-finals: The quarter-finals were played in a knockout system with a return leg. The winner of each game advanced to the semi-finals.

Final Four: For the 9th time there was a Final Four tournament. The semi-finals were played in the knockout system. The winners of both games made it to the final, the losers contested the game for third place. Only one game was played per semi-final. The final and the game for third place were also played in simple mode.

The group stage draw took place on June 29th in Vienna .
