mode
This season, for the first time, a total of 32 teams played in eight groups in the group stage, so there was only one qualifying round in the knockout system with a return leg. The winners from the qualifying round moved into the group stage and the losers into the second round of the 2003/04 EHF Cup . In the group stage with eight groups of four teams each, everyone in the group played a game against each other. The top two in each group reached the newly introduced round of 16 and the eight thirds played in the round of 16 of the 2003/04 European Cup Winners' Cup . From the round of 16 onwards, a knockout system was played with a return leg. The winner of the final was the EHF Champions League winner of the 2003/04 season.
qualification
The first legs took place on 12./13. September 2003. The second leg took place on 20./21. September 2003. The meetings between HC Granitas Kaunas and Filippos Verias, which took place in Veria on September 19 and 21, 2003, were an exception .
Group stage
The groups were drawn on July 15, 2003. The group stage was played between October 11, 2003 and November 30, 2003.
The course of the preliminary round group E can be noted as a curiosity. There were only home wins here, so that ultimately all four teams were tied and the goal difference had to decide.
