EHF Champions League 2000/01
32 handball club teams that had qualified for the competition in their home leagues in the previous season took part in the EHF Champions League 2000/01 . It was the 41st edition of the EHF Champions League or the European Cup of National Champions. The defending champion was FC Barcelona . The cup games began on September 2, 2000, the second final took place on April 28, 2001. In the final, Portland San Antonio was able to prevail against FC Barcelona.
mode
Before the group stage, there were two rounds in the knockout system with a return leg for the lower-rated clubs. The winners from round 1 moved into round 2 and the losers into the second round of the EHF Cup 2000/01 . The winners from round 2 advanced to the group stage and the losers to the third round of the EHF Cup. In the group stage with four groups of four teams each, each group played a game against each other. The two best groups in each group reached the quarter-finals. From the quarter-finals onwards, the game was played in a knockout system with a return leg. The winner of the final was the EHF Champions League winner of the 2000/01 season.

The home and away games took place between September 2, 2001 and September 10, 2001.

The home and return games took place between October 14, 2001 and October 22, 2001.
