EHF Champions League 2001/02
At the EHF Champions League 2001/02 31 took Handball part -Vereinsmannschaften, who had qualified in the previous season in their home leagues for the competition. It was the 42nd edition of the EHF Champions League or the European Cup of National Champions. The defending champion was Portland San Antonio . The cup games began on September 7, 2001, the second final took place on April 27, 2002. In the final, SC Magdeburg was able to prevail against KC Veszprém .
mode
Before the group stage, there were two rounds in the knockout system with a return leg for the lower-ranked qualified clubs. The winners from round 1 moved into round 2 and the losers into the second round of the 2001/02 EHF Cup . The winners from round 2 advanced to the group stage and the losers to the third round of the EHF Cup. In the group stage with four groups of four teams each, each group played a game against each other. The two best groups in each group reached the quarter-finals. From the quarter-finals onwards, the game was played in a knockout system with a return leg. The winner of the final was the EHF Champions League winner of the 2001/02 season.
1 round
The first legs took place on 7/8/9. September 2001 and the second leg on 15./16. September 2001, with the following exceptions:
- AC Doukas School versus ASKI Ankara, first leg on September 19 in Athens and second leg on September 23 in Ankara
- ZTR Zaporizhia against RK Gračanica, two-way leg on September 15 and 16 in Zaporizhia
- Hapoel Rishon LeZion against HC Eynatten, return leg on September 7th and 8th in Rishon LeZion
2nd round
The first legs took place on 6/7. October 2001 and the second leg on 13./14. October 2001, with the following exceptions:
- Steaua Bucharest versus Sporting Lisbon, first leg on October 12 in Bucharest and second leg on October 14 in Lisbon
- Wybrzeże Gdańsk versus CSKA Moscow, return leg on October 13 and 14 in Moscow
- Hapoel Rishon Le Zion versus Pallamano Trieste, first leg on October 14th in Rishon LeZion and second leg on October 21st in Trieste

The group stage was played between November 10, 2001 and December 12, 2001.

The first leg in Veszprém took place on April 21, 2002 and the second leg in Magdeburg on April 27, 2002. SC Magdeburg was the first non-Spain winner since the 1993 European Cup was renamed the EHF Champions League.
