Staufer iron sandstone mountains

The Staufer Eisensandsteinberge are a natural area (110.41) in the foreland of the Anlauteralb in the foreland of the southern Franconian Jura in the Franconian Keuper-Lias-Land in the south-west German step country .

They are bordered by Thalach and Schwarzach. In the north the natural area borders on the Freystädter Albvorland west of the Schwarzach (111.00), in the east and south on the Schwarzach-Thalach valley funnel (082.29) and in the west on the Thalach headwaters (110.40). The highest elevations are the Eichelberg at 555  m above sea level. NHN and the Stauf at 557  m above sea level. NHN .

The Staufer Eisensandsteinberge mainly consist of Doggersandstein . They are forested with coniferous wood, but were originally covered with a beech forest.

The area is used for agriculture and forestry.

Politically, the area largely belongs to the Thalmässing market . It includes the districts of Offenbau , Schwimbach , Lohen , Stauf , Dixenhausen , Graßhöfe and Appenstetten .
