action

The self-taught journalist Jay Bahadur tries in vain to gain a foothold in journalism after graduating from high school. Still living with his parents, he keeps himself afloat with an unsatisfactory job as a questioner about the placement of products in supermarkets. A chance encounter with his journalistic idol Seymour Tolbin inspires him not to realize his dream of journalism in the conventional way through a university education, but to follow in the footsteps of his idol to endanger himself for an exciting story and in search of the story of his life to report on the background of piracy in Somalia.

Via a request to the President of Somalia, he receives support from local people and flies to the country that has been torn by civil war. Through his translator Abdi, he manages to establish contact with the local Somali pirates and to interview them. Although this gives him interesting insights into the life and organization of the Somali pirates, he does not manage to find donors for a book project in his North American homeland. In order to fulfill this dream anyway, Jay puts himself more and more in danger and at the same time is swept away by the vortex of events.
