Renato Vugrinec (born June 9, 1975 in Videm pri Ptuju ) is a Macedonian national handball player who previously played for the Slovenian national team. He is under contract with RK Metalurg Skopje and is mainly used in the right back area.

Career

Renato Vugrinec started playing handball at MRK Drava Ptuj in his home town. There he also played his first league games. In 1997 he joined the Slovenian series champion RK Celje on, with whom he 1997/98, 1998/99, 1999/2000, 2000/01, 2001/02, 2002/03, 2003/04 and 2004/05, the Slovenian Championship , 1997 / 98, 1998/99, 1999/2000, 2000/01 and 2003/04 won the Slovenian Cup and, as a highlight in 2003/04, won the EHF Champions League and the European Club Championship . Vugrinec was also involved in the subsequent sell-out of the successful Celjer team, he went to the German handball league for SC Magdeburg .

He was largely unsuccessful with the Elbstadt team, so that after two years he moved to SDC San Antonio in the Spanish ASOBAL league . In 2009 he returned to RK Celje. A year later he left the financially troubled club for Qatar , where he played at al-Sadd Sport Club until 2011 . Shortly after the start of the 2011/12 season, he was signed by HSV Hamburg until the end of the season. Then Vugrinec signed a contract with the Slovenian first division club RK Maribor Branik . After only a few games, he moved to the Macedonian first division club RK Metalurg Skopje at the end of September 2012. With Metalurg he won the Macedonian Cup in 2013 and the championship in 2014.

Renato Vugrinec has played 187 international matches for the Slovenian national team. With Slovenia he reached the final of the 2004 European Handball Championship in his own country, but lost to the German team there. In the World Handball Championship for Men 2007 was missing in Germany Vugrinec due to injury. He participated in the 2000 and 2004 Olympic Games .

Since the beginning of 2014, Vugrinec has also had Macedonian citizenship and is therefore allowed to play for the Macedonian national team , as he has met the three-year period required by the IHF without international appearances. In qualifying for the European Handball Championship in 2016 , he made his competitive debut for Macedonia on October 29, 2014 in a 27:20 win over Switzerland in Skopje.

Vugrinec is privately married and has three children.
