Velko Markoski ( Macedonian Велко Маркоски ; born April 5, 1986 in Struga , SR Macedonia , SFR Yugoslavia ) is a Macedonian handball player who is mostly used on the left back . His younger brother Nikola is also a handball player.
The 1.94 m tall and 100 kg heavy right-hander began his professional career in 2004 at the Macedonian club RK Vardar Skopje . With the capital city club he won the Macedonian championship in 2007 and 2009 and the cup in 2007 and 2008. Internationally, he reached the group stage of the EHF Champions League 2004/05 as well as the semi-finals in the EHF European Cup Winners 'Cup 2004/05 , the quarterfinals in the EHF Challenge Cup 2005/06, the quarterfinals in the EHF European Cup Winners' Cup 2006/07 , the group stage of EHF Champions League 2007/08 and 2009/10 as well as the third round in the EHF European Cup Winners' Cup 2008/09 . Since 2010 he has been playing for city rivals RK Metalurg Skopje . With Metalurg he was champion in 2011, 2012 and 2014 and cup winner in 2011 and 2013. In the EHF Cup 2010/11 and in the EHF Champions League 2011/12 he made it to the round of 16, in the EHF Champions League in 2012/13 and 2013/14 the quarter-finals. In the summer of 2015, Markoski moved to Rabotnički Skopje and in December 2015 he joined the Croatian club RK Zagreb . With Zagreb he won the championship and the Croatian Cup in 2016 and 2017.
With the Macedonian national team , Velko Markoski took part in the 2009 World Cup , the 2012 European Championship , the 2013 World Cup and the 2014 European Championship . He has played 44 international matches so far , scoring 48 goals.
