Matjaž Brumen (born December 23, 1982 in Ljubljana , SR Slovenia , SFR Yugoslavia ) is a Slovenian handball player . He is 1.90 m tall.
Brumen, who plays for the Slovenian club RK Velenje (shirt number 77) and plays for the Slovenian national team, is mostly used on the right winger , but he can also play in the right backcourt .
Career
Matjaž Brumen started playing handball in his hometown. For the local first division club Prule 67 Ljubljana he also made his debut in the Slovenian first division. After two runner-up championships in 2000 and 2001, he won the Slovenian double championship and cup with Prule in 2002. In 2003 Brumen was banned for four months after a positive doping test . In the same year, the capital city club had to file for bankruptcy and Brumen moved on to serial champion RK Celje together with his friend Jure Natek . There he won the Slovenian Championship in 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007, the Slovenian Cup in 2004, 2006 and 2007, and in 2004 the highlight was the EHF Champions League . After these successes, Brumen was looking for a new challenge and in 2007 he joined the up-and-coming club RK Koper, with whom he won the championship in 2011 and the cup in 2008, 2009 and 2011. In 2013 he moved to the Macedonian club RK Vardar Skopje , with which he won the championship in 2015 and 2016, the SEHA league in 2014 and the Macedonian Cup in 2014, 2015 and 2016. He has been playing for the Slovenian club RK Velenje since the 2016/17 season .
Matjaž Brumen has so far played 131 international matches for the Slovenian national team. At the 2004 European Championships in his own country, he became vice European champion. At the 2004 Olympic Games , he finished 11th. With Slovenia he took part in the 2007 World Cup in Germany, but only finished 10th; at the 2008 European Championships in Norway he was not part of his country's squad.
