The SEHA League is a supranational handball competition that was held for the first time in the 2011/12 season. The organizer is the South Eastern Handball Association , an association founded specifically to host this league, which is supported by the national handball associations of the participants. The twelve participating teams in the first season came from Bosnia and Herzegovina , Croatia , Macedonia , Montenegro , Serbia and Slovakia , from 2012 a Belarusian and from 2014 a Hungarian team took part. RK Vardar Skopje from Macedonia became champions in the first season .
mode
The twelve participants compete against each other twice in the main round in a league. Once in the home hall and once outside. The best four teams will qualify after the round for the play-offs, which were held in Zagreb in the first year . The point allocation in the league is unusual for handball. The handball association of Bosnia-Herzegovina, which is in charge of the SEHA, has adopted the so-called "English table" system, which is also used in the domestic league, in which there are three points for a win and one for a draw. Some of the clubs participating in the SEHA league are exempt from the main round of their national leagues and only enter there at the start of the play-offs or championship rounds. Nevertheless, the first season of the league suffered from scheduling problems. Several main round games were not played. The first winner of the competition was RK Vardar Skopje , who defeated city rivals RK Metalurg Skopje in the final in Zagreb .
In the 2012/13 season only ten teams took part in the SEHA league. Newcomers were the champions and former European Cup finalist from Bosnia-Herzegovina, RK Sloga Doboj and the Belarusian runner-up Brest GK Meschkow . For the third season 2013/14 the Serbian clubs RK Partizan Belgrade and RK Vojvodina Novi Sad took the places of RK Sloga Doboj and HRK Izviđač Ljubuški . Vardar Skopje became champion for the second time.
For the 2014/15 season, the participating countries were to be extended to Hungary and Slovenia, but both the Slovenian clubs RK Celje , RK Velenje and RK Maribor Branik and the Hungarian runner-up Pick Szeged decided not to participate for the time being due to the required entry fee of € 150,000, so that only the Hungarian record champions MKB-MVM Veszprém joined as a newcomer. The second newcomer was the Serbian club RK Radnički Kragujevac , while RK Lovćen Cetinje and RK Partizan Belgrade were eliminated.
The 2015/16 season was held for the first time without RK Metalurg Skopje , as they had lost their starting place in the Macedonian national championship to RK Maks Strumica . The RK Spartak Vojput took over a Serbian starting place in the same way, replacing the RK Radnički Kragujevac .
For the 2018/19 season, a team from Romania will take part for the first time. On August 28, 2018, Steaua Bucharest won their first game 26:25 against Tatran Prešov. Due to the mode changes in the Slovenian league, Celje and Velenje will not participate.
