Carlos Ruesga Pasarín (born March 10, 1985 in Gijón , Spain ) is a Spanish handball player . He is 1.88 m tall and weighs 88 kg.
Ruesga, who plays for the Portuguese club Sporting Lisbon and plays for the Spanish national team, is mostly used as the center of the back room.
Career
Carlos Ruesga started playing handball in his hometown. In 2005 he moved from the local club Previa Grupo Isastur Gijón to the then Spanish champions SDC San Antonio, where he also made his debut in the Spanish league ASOBAL . Behind Ivano Balić he was mostly only second choice in the playmaker position; However, when Kristian Kjelling was injured at the beginning of the 2007/08 season , Ruesga also proved his qualities on the half-left position and scored 25 goals in the group stage of the EHF Champions League , for example . After three years with Ademar León , he moved to the top Hungarian club KC Veszprém for the 2013/14 season , with whom he became champions and cup winners in 2013/14 and 2014/15. In 2015 he left Veszprém. Ruesga was signed to FC Barcelona in November 2015 , where he was part of the second team squad. He has been under contract with Sporting Lisbon since summer 2016. With Sporting he won the EHF Challenge Cup in 2017 and the Portuguese championship in 2017 and 2018.
Carlos Ruesga had played 71 international matches for the Spanish national team until September 2019 , in which he scored 138 goals. At the 2007 World Cup , he was only part of the extended squad of his country; in the handball European championship in 2008 , however, he took part, but dropped out with Spain after the main round. In 2013 he was a member of the Spanish world championship team .
