Borut Mačkovšek (born September 11, 1992 in Koper ) is a Slovenian handball player .

Borut Mačkovšek began playing handball in his hometown of Izola. Later he went to RK Celje , where he had his first appearances in the first team from 2009, including in the EHF Champions League . In the 2010/11 season he moved to Maribor Branik, but returned to RK Celje a year later. In the summer of 2013, the 2.03 meter tall back player moved to the German Bundesliga club TSV Hannover-Burgdorf , where he signed a three-year contract. In spring 2013 he terminated his contract in Celje at short notice in order to be able to play at Al Sadd Doha until he moved to Hanover. With this club he won the Emir Cup as top scorer. In early February 2014 he moved to HC Dinamo Minsk . After Minsk withdrew his team from all competitions with immediate effect at the end of February 2014 due to financial problems, Mačkovšek returned to RK Celje on a free transfer. Just a week later, he won the Slovenian Cup again. He also won the championship title with Celje in May 2014. For the 2014/15 season he moved to Montpellier Handball , where he replaced William Accambray . In December 2015 he moved to ThSV Eisenach in the handball Bundesliga. From summer 2016 he played for RK Celje. Two years later he joined the Hungarian club KC Veszprém . With Veszprém he won the Hungarian championship in 2019. For the 2020/21 season he switched to league rival Pick Szeged .

Borut Mačkovšek has been part of the Slovenian national team since 2011 , with which he took part in the 2012 European Championship in Serbia and the 2013 World Cup in Spain .
