The 1st A moški državna rokometna liga (German: 1st men's handball league ) is the top division in Slovenian men's handball . The organizer of the competition, which has been held since 1991, is the Slovenian handball association Rokometna zveza Slovenije .

In the main round, the twelve teams play each other against each other for the placements in the first and second round. The first six reach the championship round, the bottom six the relegation round. The points from the main round are taken with them. Then within each group everyone plays again against everyone in home and away games. The worst team in the relegation round is relegated. The winner of the championship round becomes the Slovenian champion and qualifies for the EHF Champions League . The second-placed team can also take part in the Champions League. The third starts in the EHF European Cup .
