history
The handball department was founded for the 1950/51 season. For a while there were two active handball clubs in Koper: RK iplas and RK Koper. The best result of the first few years was an eighth place in the 1966/67 season. The club had to be saved financially many times, but the handball department was also dissolved several times, most recently after the 1991/92 season. After that, only a few handball enthusiasts played in the team under the then coach Igor Poklar. Later they cooperated with a primary school to promote the next generation. In the 1999/2000 season, the club won against Krim, Krško and Ptuj, qualifying for the 1st B-League, which corresponds to the German 2nd handball Bundesliga. The company Cimos has been a sponsor of the association since 2000. This contributed to the quick economic strengthening of the club. Within just two years, RK Cimos Koper became a member of the Slovenian handball elite, the 1st A-League. Since then, the club has been an important sporting and social sponsor in the region and has made Slovenian handball known throughout Europe. The club was in international business for the first time in the 2004/2005 season. There they were eliminated in the third round against Dunaferr SE in the EHF Cup . The following season they were eliminated again in the third round, this time against VfL Gummersbach . The club is also very successful in youth work, where the U-16s and U-18s won the country's national youth championship in the 2006/2007 season. In the 2006/2007 season they finished third in the national championship, which meant they took part in the EHF Cup for the third time in the 2007/2008 season and then failed in the semi-finals at FCK Håndbold . Up until then that was the best result in international business. In the same season they finished second in the league, which entitles them to participate in the EHF Champions League the following year . And you won the Slovenian Cup for the first time. In the 2008/2009 season they came second in the league and won the Slovenian Cup for the second time in a row. For the first time the Slovenian Supercup was held and won by RK Koper. In the 2008/09 Champions League they were eliminated as the last in Group E against Medvedi Chekhov , SDC San Antonio and Steaua Bucharest. The U-18 team also won the championship. The EHF Challenge Cup was the international competition in which the club participated in 2009/2010. There they were eliminated in the 4th round against the Spanish club BM Granollers . The 2010/2011 season is the most successful season so far. They became Slovenian champions for the first time, celebrated victory in the Slovenian Cup for the third time and won the EHF Challenge Cup 2010/11 .
