Rui Sousa Martins da Silva

Rui Sousa Martins da Silva (born April 23, 1993 in Guimarães ) is a Portuguese handball player .

The 1.86 m tall and 80 kg heavy right-hander is mostly used in the middle of the back area.

Martins da Silva started playing handball at the Portuguese club Xico Andebol . With Xico he reached the quarter-finals in the EHF Challenge Cup 2009/10 , where he was the second top scorer in the competition with 55 goals. In the same season he won the first championship for the club. He then moved to the Challenge Cup winner Sporting Lisbon . In 2012 and 2013 he won the Portuguese Cup. With Sporting he reached the semi-finals of the Challenge Cup again in 2011/12. In the EHF Europa Pokal 2013/14 , the leap into the group stage succeeded. For the 2015/16 season he moved to FC Porto . With Porto he won the Portuguese championship and the Portuguese cup in 2019.

At the U-20 European Championship in 2012 (5th place), he was elected top scorer with 54 goals and was elected to the All-Star team. He scored 20 goals in the main round match against Switzerland (45:44 n.7-M). For the Portuguese national team he has played 70 international matches so far , in which he scored 109 goals.
