Yoon Kyung-shin (born July 7, 1973 in Seoul ) is a former South Korean handball player . The left-hander played on the right back position .
He started playing handball at school when he was twelve. Before joining the German Bundesliga club VfL Gummersbach in 1996 , he played at Kyunghee University . From the 2006/07 season, Yoon played for HSV Hamburg for two years , where he wore jersey number 77. After the 2007/08 season, Yoon left HSV Hamburg for South Korea. In addition to his handball career with the Doosan factory team, he completed a sports marketing degree here.
With a height of 2.04 m, he is the eleventh tallest South Korean.
With 2,908 goals (including 2,262 field goals), he is the record holder of the all-time goalscorer list in the handball Bundesliga. In 1997, 1999 to 2002, 2004 and 2007 he was the top scorer . In the 2000/2001 season, with 324 goals, he scored more goals than anyone in the history of the Bundesliga. He also became the best top scorer of all time at the Olympics.
Yoon Kyung-shin has been nominated for the Korean national team 263 times. He was also voted World Handball Player of the Year 2001. In summer 2012 he took part in the Olympic Games in London . With South Korea he won the Asian Cup in 2012 .
According to legend, he got his nickname "Nick" from the former national coach Heiner Brand , who trained Yoon in his first years in Germany. Due to his poor knowledge of German at the time, Yoon hardly understood any of Brand's instructions and merely nodded politely at what his trainer said - from which his nickname emerged.
Yoon Kyung-shin is married to Kwon Soon-kyun. They have a son together.
