Jörg Becker (business IT specialist)

Jörg Becker (born January 27, 1959 in Cologne ) is a German business IT specialist .

Life

Becker studied from 1977 to 1982 at the University of Saarland and the University of Michigan . He then worked as a research assistant at the Institute for Information Systems (IWi), Saarland University with August-Wilhelm Scheer .

Becker has been teaching at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster since 1990 . Since 1995 he has also been Managing Director of the Institute for Information Systems and, since 2004, of the European Research Center for Information Systems (ERCIS). From October 2008 to September 2016 he was Vice Rector for Strategic Planning and Quality Assurance at the University of Münster .

Act

Becker's research focuses on information management , information modeling , data management , logistics , trade information systems , strategic IT management consulting, e-government , process-oriented administrative modernization (using the PICTURE method ), and projects with industrial, service and trading companies. For the latter in particular, he developed the reference model Handels-H , with the help of which the processes within such a company can be mapped in a closed form for the first time.

In 2007 he was elected as a full member of the North Rhine-Westphalian Academy of Sciences and Arts .

Since 2015 Becker has been a member of the “Digital Administration and Public IT” platform at the national digital summit and a member of the NRW Digital Economy Advisory Board .

In May 2015 Becker was the Conference Chair and main organizer of the 23rd European Conference on Information Systems (ECIS) in Münster.

Honors and awards

• 05/2015 Honorary doctorate at the University of Turku , Finland (Dr. hc)
• 09/2013 Appointment as GI-Fellow, award of the Gesellschaft für Informatik (GI) for scientists who have made an outstanding contribution to the GI and computer science.
• 11/2013 Honorary doctorate at Voronezh State University, Russia (Dr. hc)
• 07/2011 Honorary Professor of the National Research University Higher School of Economics Moscow, Russia (NRU-HSE)
