Christian Gaudin (born January 26, 1967 in Chenôve , France ) is a French handball coach and former national goalkeeper .

Career

The 1.97 m tall goalkeeper won the French championship with USAM Nîmes in 1988, 1990, 1991 and 1993 and the French Cup in 1994. After stints at US Créteil HB and Istres OPH , he moved to the German handball league for VfL Hameln in 1997 . From 1999 he guarded the gate of SC Magdeburg , with which he won the EHF Cup in 2001, the German championship in 2001, the EHF Champions League in 2002 and the European club championship in 2001 and 2002. In 2003, despite the current contract, he returned to France in the French second division for Saint-Raphaël Var Handball for personal reasons .

Gaudin played in the French national team from 1990 to 2002 , with whom he participated in five European championships (1994, 1996, 1998, 2000, 2002), two Olympic Games ( 1996 , 2000 ) and five world championships (1993, 1995, 1997, 1999, 2001 ) participated. The greatest success of the 247-time national player was the 1995 and 2001 world championship .

After retiring, Gaudin became a coach at Saint-Raphaël. In the wild card tournament for the 2012/13 Champions League, the eventual winner HSV Hamburg lost 30:31 after extra time. After the end of the 2013/14 season, he stopped working as a club coach. From May 2014 Gaudin was the coach of the Romanian national team . In July 2014 he succeeded Martin Schwalb as coach at HSV Hamburg, where he signed a one-year contract. In December 2014 he was released as a coach after four defeats in five games and replaced by the previous assistant coach Jens Häusler . In February 2015 he took over the coaching position of the French first division club Sélestat AHB . Between July 2017 and October 2017 he coached the Romanian club HC Dobrogea Constanța . From July 2018 to November 2019 he trained at Cesson-Rennes Métropole HB .

Private

Gaudin's sons Thomas and Clement also play handball.
