Ewald Humenberger (born September 18, 1967 ) is a former Austrian handball goalkeeper and the handball record national player in Austria. In the civilian profession, the trained engineer works as a sales manager for a pump company.

Player career

Ewald Humenberger began his playing career at HC Linz , for whom he played for the first time in the Austrian Bundesliga (then the first division) in 1986. In the meantime he was also active at ATSV Innsbruck . With the Linzers he was three times Austrian champion and cup winner and reached the final in the EHF Cup in 1994 , which was lost to the Spanish club UD Alzira .

In 1996 he moved to the German Bundesliga club TuS Nettelstedt-Lübbecke , with whom he won the (now abolished) EHF City Cup in 1997 and 1998 . Humenberger played a total of 122 Bundesliga games for East Westphalia before moving back to HC Linz in 2000. After the 2007/08 season, Humenberger ended his career.

He played 246 international matches for the Austrian men's national handball team and scored one goal. Thus, he is by a large margin ahead of Patrick Fölser (218 LS) and Andreas Dittert (203 LS), who has also retired, the record national player in his country. All in all, Ewald Humenberger played more than 1000 competitive and selection games in the 22 years of his career as a first division player.

On March 7th, 2008 Ewald Humenberger was elected first vice-president of the Upper Austrian handball association OÖHV.
