Thomas Knorr (born May 16, 1971 in Lübeck ) is a former German handball player who played over 500 games in the Bundesliga .
Career
At the age of five, Knorr played his first league game in the youth division of VfL Bad Schwartau . Schwartau's coach at the time, Vlado Stenzel , had the talented young player train in the men's team at the age of 16, but due to the DHB regulations he was not yet allowed to play in senior games. Only a year later, the new coach Zvonimir Serdarušić could nominate him for games in the men's area. With the team from the jam city, he rose to the Bundesliga in 1990.
In 1992 the backcourt player moved to THW Kiel . With the Kielers he won seven national and one international titles in the years to come. After winning three titles with the THW in 1998, he moved to league rivals SG Flensburg-Handewitt . In the following years he won the DHB Supercup and two European cups with the Flensburg team . In 2001 he went back to VfL Bad Schwartau. A year later he moved to the newly created HSV Hamburg together with VfL . With the hamburgers he won a total of four club titles.
In the summer of 2007 Knorr signed a contract with VfL Bad Schwartau. At first he worked as a player-coach in Schwartau and in 2008 VfL rose to the 2nd handball league under his leadership . From summer 2011 he only worked as a coach at VfL. In October 2011, Knorr was fired after a bad start to the season. He later took over a youth team at VfL. In 2012 he made his comeback as a player at the top division Preetzer TSV .
In November 2013 Thomas Knorr was hired by Bundesliga club SC Magdeburg , who responded to injury-related personnel problems at short notice. With these four appearances (one goal), he was the seventh player to exceed the 500 Bundesliga game mark and a total of 501 games and 1521 goals.
Since the 2014/15 season he has been training with Jens Lüdtke for the Schleswig-Holstein national division HSG Ostsee N / G. Occasionally he still runs for HSG Ostsee N / G. In addition, the coaching duo trained the B-youth from MTV Lübeck. After HSG Ostsee N / G rose to the top league in 2016 , he ended his coaching work at MTV Lübeck. In 2018, HSG Ostsee rose to the 3rd division under his leadership . In March 2019 he was released from his duties.
Knorr made his debut in the national team on March 22, 1990 against the Netherlands. In his international career he scored 199 goals in 83 games. He participated in five major tournaments, with sixth place at the 1993 World Cup being the best placement. At the European Championships in 1996 he was the top scorer with 41 goals. He also took part in the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta .
