Alexei Alexejewitsch Franzusow ( Russian Алексей Алексеевич Французов , born October 16, 1971 in Chelyabinsk ) is a former Russian handball player .

Career

Alexei Franzusow began playing handball in 1983 at the age of twelve at the children's and youth sports school for MBU SSCHOR No 13 Chelyabinsk. The 1.99 m tall left back player then played in his home country for Poljot Tscheljabinsk , with whom he was Russian runner-up in 1993 and third in 1994. In December 1996 he was loaned to the German second division club VfL Bad Schwartau and after the 1996/97 season he moved to the Spanish ASOBAL league to BM Ciudad Real . After a season he moved on to Bidasoa Irún . He later ran for the lower class BM Los Barrios, where he ended his career in 2005.

With the Russian national team Franzusow won the gold medal at the 1993 World Cup . He also took part in the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, where he played one game and finished fifth. With the student national team, the graduate of the Ural GAFK University ( УралГАФК ) became student world champion in 1994 . In 1995 he won the Supercup in Germany. He played a total of 80 international matches .
