Sten Hugo Sjögren (born April 28, 1957 in Lund ) is a former Swedish handball trainer and handball player .

The 1.82 m tall and 80 kg heavy left-handed player when he was active played in the right back and on the right winger . Sjögren started playing handball in his hometown at LUGI HF . At the age of 17 he made his debut in the Swedish Elitserien , which he won in 1980. In the 1982/83 season Sjogren was elected Sweden's handball player of the year , in the 1984/85 season he was top scorer with 153 goals in 22 games together with Björn Jilsén . In 1994 he ended his professional career as the league's record scorer at the time with 1530 goals. In total, he threw 1790 goals in 432 games for Lund. After retiring, he became a player-coach in Skurup . Later he took over the post at Olympic / Viking Helsingborg HK and Ystads IF HF . In 2002 he returned to LUGI and became a youth trainer at the academy. In 2006 he retired from handball.

In the Swedish National Team Sten debuted Sjögren 1978. At the Olympic Games in 1984 in Los Angeles and 1988 in Seoul, he came fifth. At the 1990 World Cup , he surprisingly beat the Soviet team in the final and became world champion. By 1991 he played 200 international matches in which he scored 506 goals.

Private

Sten Sjögren is married with two children and two grandchildren. You live in Lund. The passionate hunter organizes hunting trips to North America, Africa and Asia.
