Maricel Voinea

Maricel Voinea (born March 17, 1959 in Galați ) is a former Romanian handball player . He played on the left winger position, but also in the left and central backcourt.

Voinea started playing handball at the age of 13. As a junior he played for Știința Bacău from 1976 . In 1977 he moved to HC Minaur Baia Mare . As captain, he won the IHF Cup with the club in 1984/85 and 1987/88 . From 1989 he played in Spain for Valencia Alzira , with whom he won the Spanish Cup in 1992. Then he went to Germany and played for the Bundesliga club SG Leutershausen , with whom he reached the semifinals of the IHF Cup in 1992/93 , and for the second division HSG Nordhorn from 1994 to 1996 . As a player-coach, he let his career end with HC Ibbenbüren, TSV Landsberg and TuS Fürstenfeldbruck.

For the Romanian national team Voinea played 263 international matches, in which he scored 706 goals. At both the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow and the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, he won the bronze medal with Romania. Romania finished eighth in its third Olympic Games in Barcelona in 1992. At the 1982 World Cup , Voinea was fifth with the Romanian team and ninth at the 1986 World Cup , where he was the best Romanian goalscorer with 40 goals. At the 1990 World Cup , Voinea was able to win the bronze medal with Romania.
