Nixon on the steps of Army One

Army One is the radio call sign of every United States Army aircraft that has the President of the United States on board.

Between 1957 and 1976, the Army shared the task of helicopter transport with the United States Marine Corps , so the callsign was assigned frequently. After 1976 the helicopter transport was completely transferred to the Marine Corps. A famous picture was taken on August 9, 1974, when Richard Nixon made a victory sign on the steps of Army One after announcing his resignation due to the Watergate affair the day before .

An Army aircraft that carries the Vice President is called an Army Two .
