Handball

1922 was the year of birth of oppumer handball. The TV Krefeld-Oppum was particularly important in field handball , the first great success dates back to 1931: Oppum was handball champion of the German Gymnastics Association with a 4: 3 in the final in front of 22,000 spectators in the Grotenburg-Kampfbahn against the 'Turngemeinde in Berlin 1848 '. In the subsequent playoff for the German handball championship against Police SV Berlin , the champion of the German Sports Authority for Athletics , which was then competing in handball, the TV Oppum lost 12: 5.

The second half of the 1960s were the sporty successful period of the club: The then still in the Grotenburg Kampfbahn playing team was in the championship round in 1966 and in the Bundesliga season 1968 German champion in the field handball. Oppum was a founding member of the Feldhandball-Bundesliga in 1967 and played in the northern relay of this top division of the sport for all seven official seasons of its existence.

1966 in particular was a formative year . It was important to qualify for the newly founded field handball league alongside the West German championship. The TV oppum almost failed at TV Kärlich. After a three-goal deficit in the Grotenburg-Kampfbahn , the TVO managed to equalize in the last minute and thus reached the Bundesliga, as the first leg was won in Kärlich. In Hagen she then played the final of the West German Championship against VfL Gummersbach and lost just 19:16. The further path to the "German Championship" led via the Berliner SV 92 and Eintracht Hildesheim , both of which were eliminated. The final was reached again for the first time in 35 years. The opponent was not called VfL Gummersbach, as was generally expected, but Hamburger SV.

The final took place on October 2, 1966 in the Schwelgern Stadium in Hamborn against Hamburger SV . A crowd of 20,000 gave the game a worthy setting. While both teams carefully felt each other in the first half, a real tornado broke out over HSV in the second half, and the victory clearly fell to the TV oppum at 19:12. Coach Hans Keiter had made his team fit at the right moment and thus reached his first German handball championship together with the team, and the second of the TV Oppum.

In 1968 , the TV Oppum, under coach Hans Keiter, was the first to win the North Group Championship of the Field Handball League. This was the second time in a short time that the TVO was in the final of the German Field Hand Championship. The opponent was the SG Leutershausen , the reigning German indoor handball champions. This final took place in the Düsseldorf Rheinstadion on September 8, 1968 in front of an impressive crowd of 25,000. At halftime, TV Oppum was 8: 4 behind, and when Leutershausen even increased to 9: 4 after the break, it looked like the game had already been decided. However, the young Oppumer team found itself, and the result was corrected in rapid, successful goal runs. Thanks to the better condition and thanks to the better overview in the second half, the TV oppum won the game with 18:16. It was the third German handball championship that the TV Oppum was able to win in its club history.

The club was the last West German field handball champion in 1974. In 1979 the club won the title of German A-Youth Vice Champion in indoor handball . The German DHB-Oldie-Masters winner was in 1995.
