Hans Keiter

Johannes Ferdinand "Hans" Keiter (born March 22, 1910 in Mülheim an der Ruhr ; † September 8, 2005 in Solingen ) was a German field handball player and gold medalist at the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin.

Athletic career

Hans Keiter first played for RSV Mülheim , later for the police SV Berlin . At the Olympic Games in 1936, Keiter was the captain of the German national team in three games, in which he scored a total of two goals. He did not score a goal on August 14, 1936 in the final against Austria, which the German team won 10: 6 and thus became Olympic champion in field handball. In February 1938, Keiter, along with Günter Ortmann and Hans Theilig, was one of three Olympic champions in the German squad for the first indoor handball world championship . The German team won the tournament. In July 1938 the first world championship in field handball took place, besides Keiter, Ortmann and Theilig there were other Olympic champions and other indoor world champions in the German team. The German team won the title clearly: in the final they defeated the team from Switzerland 23-0.

Keiter played a total of 26 international matches from 1935 to 1941 , six of them in the hall. Hans Keiter was a police officer from 1930 until his retirement in 1970, most recently as senior police officer. He was also active in the German handball federation . As a coach, he led the TV Krefeld-Oppum in 1966 and 1968 to the German championship in field handball.
