This orchid looks similar to the Black Ragwort ( Ophrys incubacea ). It is a herbaceous perennial plant . Especially the long hair on the lips and the dark lip color can be found in both species. However, there are differences such. B. in the size of the flowers , their sepals are whitish to pinkish purple and the lateral petals pink to brownish red.
The number of chromosomes is 2n = 36 or 38.
Location and distribution
The Siponto Ragwort is found on poor grasslands and pastures with moderately dry and calcareous soils up to a height of 600 meters above sea level. This species is endemic to Italy on the southern slope and at the southern foot of Monte Gargano .
