Handball regional league mid 2001/02

The 2001/2002 season was the second season of the men 's regional handball division . 15 teams (the FSV Magdeburg withdrew their team before the first matchday) played for the championship. The table leader after the 28th matchday was automatically the Central German Champion 2002 and promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga . The HSC Bad Neustadt achieved this .

In addition to FSV Magdeburg (Saxony-Anhalt) with SV Hermsdorf (Thuringia) and BW Goldbach-Hochheim (Hesse), three teams had to relegate to the top leagues .
