history

The VfB 1861 was founded on June 22nd, 1861 as the gymnastics club Forchheim 1861, and is the oldest sports club in town. At first there was only gymnastics. In 1911, through the affiliations of the "Pfeil football club" and the Hitzler power sports club, further departments were formed in which football, fistball, athletics and heavy athletics were played. In 1927 a separate gym was completed on Jahnstrasse. In 1946, shortly after the Second World War, the handball department was established. Also in that year a boxing department was founded, which later disbanded. At that time it was also united with 1. FC Germania 08, and from that point on the club was called VfB Forchheim 1861. However, the two clubs were separated again in 1948, and the former gymnastics club kept the new name.

Over time, for example, chess (1946–1972) and swimming departments were created and then disappeared again. In the 1960s the judo division was organized.
