Simeon ben Menasja
R. Simeon ben Menasja (also Simon ben Menassia ) was an ancient Jewish scholar who is counted among the fourth generation of Tannaites and who worked in the second century AD.
He was a student of Rabbi Meir , from whom he handed down doctrines. With his friend Jose ben Meschullam he headed the so-called Holy Congregation in Jerusalem , a pious circle reminiscent of the Essenes , which devoted a third of the day to studying the scriptures, a third to prayer and the last third to work.
Mishnah and Baraita narrate a great number of Halachoth of Simeons. Above all, Sifre also brings several Haggadic scriptural interpretations that have him as the author.
