Rab (honorary title)

The name addition Rab or Raw or abbreviated often just R. denotes an honorary title for Jewish scholars.

Examples include Rab Nachman (Rab Nachman bar Jakob, Rav Nachman ben Jakob), a third generation Amora in Babylon or Rab Nachman bar Isaak (d. 356), a fourth generation Amora in Babylonia.
