Type 111a

The type 111 is a multi-purpose container ship type from the Sietas shipyard in Hamburg-Neuenfelde .

history

The Maj Danielsen , formerly Tinto (Type 111a)

The series was ordered by various shipping companies in the early 1980s. A total of 16 units were built: three ships of the basic type 111, twelve of the sub-type 111a and one of the sub-type 111b. Depending on the construction variant, the ships are often used on various multi-purpose, container and project cargo services. But they were also found in the worldwide trampoline trip .

The Robert sank on December 22, 1990 after she collided with the Chinese freighter Yun Lin on the Outer Weser . Due to the weather, it could only be lifted seven weeks later using two floating cranes. The ship was first brought to the Lloyd shipyard in Bremerhaven , where it was temporarily sealed and then towed to the Sietas shipyard, where it was repaired and extended. The Karen Danielsen (formerly Esperanza ) collided on March 3, 2005 outside the fairway with the bridge over the Great Belt . The entire bridge deck was torn down and the other superstructures as well as both loading cranes were badly damaged. The helmsman who was alone on the bridge was killed. He probably fell asleep drunk. The ship was sold, repaired in Naples (Italy) and put back into service as Renis in August 2005 . On January 16, 2009, she ran aground as Mirabelle near Rosendal (Norway) in the Hardangerfjord and sank into the bottom as a result of water ingress in the engine room. The damaged ship was sold after the salvage and was used again as a Marium . The Lugela (formerly Albatros ) was boarded by Somali pirates on September 25, 2010 . The Southern Phoenix (formerly Gretl ) was increasingly listed in the port of Suva ( Fiji ) on May 6, 2017 as a result of an incorrectly carried out loading. When trying to tow the heeling ship to another port area, it capsized and sank. The recovery of the Southern Phoenix was completed in March 2019, with the lifted wreckage being sunk outside the port.

technology

The three built units of the crane-free basic type 111 originally had a length of 84.40 meters. All three ships were subsequently rebuilt at Sietas between 1986 and 1991 and lengthened to 98.70 meters. The single ship of the subtype 111b, created in 1986, is an extended version of the original basic type and was 92.42 meters long when it was delivered. The subtype 111a, built in twelve units, is 88.60 meters long and equipped with two 30-ton cranes on the port side. The two cranes can be operated coupled, which allows heavy lift and project loads of up to 60 tons to be taken over. The individual box-shaped loading space with a grain volume of 5,721 m³ (type 111a) is equipped for the transport of containers and the transport of dangerous goods containers. The standard equipment with Cellguides was dispensed with. Due to the shape of the holds, this type of ship can also be used in bulk goods, cellulose or parcel wood transport. In addition, the tank roof is reinforced for stowing heavy goods . Hydraulically operated folding hatch covers reinforced with heavy cargo were used. The hold can be divided by using bulkheads and tween decks.

The ships in the series are powered by four-stroke diesel engines from various manufacturers, which on some ships have a reversing gear on a fixed propeller, but in the majority of ships they act on a variable pitch propeller . The berthing and casting off maneuvers are supported by a bow thruster .

The ice-reinforced hulls were assembled in a sectional construction.
