Shipyards in Bardenfleth
The shipyards in Bardenfleth were built in Bardenfleth in Stedinger Land from 1800; there were various small wooden shipyards; today Bardenfleth is a district of Berne (27804).
history
In seafaring , river and lake fishing , which began around 1800 , farmer sons who were not entitled to inheritance found profitable work. Some rose to become helmsmen or captains , took part in small sailing or fishing ships and later founded small shipping companies . In winter, the ships were often overhauled and repaired in-house, and so in Bardenfleth, Motzen and other settlements such as B. Hammelwarden and Brake on the Weser repair sites and also simple shipbuilding sites ( Lastadie ). In Stedinger Land , Bardenfleth was a center of these developments due to its ideal location on the Weser.
Today's development
Most of the shipyards listed in the table have only built a few ships and have been abandoned. For a long time, wood was the dominant building material for ships, it was available almost everywhere and common “hand tools” were used for processing. The transition from timber to iron and steel shipbuilding made it difficult for the remaining shipyards to survive. The ship and boat yard Gebr. Schürenstedt was closed in 1979/80. The Schweers ship and boat yard was taken over by the Lürssen shipyard and operated as Lürssen-Bardenfleth until it was closed in 2011. Only the Fassmer shipyard in Bardenfleth has remained independent .
