The TuS 05 Dortmund-Wellinghofen ( gymnastics and sports club Dortmund-Wellinghofen 05 eV ) is a sports club from the southern Dortmund district of Wellinghofen .

The club became known nationwide through the success of its men's handball team; 1964 TuS was German champion in the field handball .

The club was founded on November 4, 1905 as the Turnverein Wellinghofen ; After a swimming department was founded in 1926, the club's name was temporarily Turn- und Schwimmverein Wellinghofen .

Handball

Since 1915 handball has been played at TuS, initially as a goal ball , an early form of handball for women's teams. In 1925 the first men's team for field handball was set up.

Field handball

However, major successes were not achieved until the post-war period. The TuS 05 was consistently qualified for participation in the finals of the German field handball championship between 1962 and 1965 . When they first participated in 1962 , the team was eliminated in the preliminary round against eventual champions TSV Ansbach , the 1963 tournament ended for Wellinghofen in the semi-finals. In the following year, the greatest success in the club's history came with winning the title at the German championship in 1964 ; the final in front of 25,000 spectators in Herford was won 13: 9 against Grün-Weiß Dankersen .

In 1966 Wellinghofen qualified for the field handball Bundesliga , which was started by the DHB in the following season in 1967 , the club took part in all seven seasons and was relay champion of the Bundesliga North in 1970 and 1971 . In 1970 Wellinghofen failed in the semi-finals of the season winners by just one goal difference on TV Hochdorf . The 1971 season, when the club only had to give in to TSV Grün-Weiß Dankersen in the final and became German runner-up, was the biggest Bundesliga success on the large field .

Indoor handball

As on the field, Wellinghofen was also a founding member of the handball league introduced for the 1966/67 season in indoor handball. TuS qualified second in the 1966 elimination round at the West German regional championship. And just like in field handball, a German runner-up was the club's greatest success : in the 1973/74 season , TuS had won the Bundesliga North as a season winner, prevailed against Frisch Auf Göppingen in the two semi-finals and was only defeated in the final the VfL Gummersbach with 19:14.

When the new single-track Bundesliga was to be introduced in 1977, Wellinghofen was initially athletically qualified for participation due to the results of the 1976/77 season. After objections by TuS Derschlag against the valuation of several Bundesliga games, Wellinghofen lost the qualification again at the green table and had to accept relegation to the regional league . Subsequently, the TuS could no longer build on the old successes, five years later, after the 1981/82 season , the relegation to the league followed.

Between 2000 and 2013 there was a syndicate with TuS Lücklemberg under the name HC Dortmund-Süd . In the meantime (as of 2014) the first men's team plays in the regional league, the women in the district league.
